Rilievo macrosismico

After the earthquake that hit the island of Ischia, the Department starts the macroseismic survey of the affected localities, to delimit the area of damage and classify the damage in a homogeneous way.

Teams from the Quest - QUick Earthquake Survey Team of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, in collaboration with staff from Enea - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, began to carry out the macroseismic survey on the ground from the afternoon of August 23. The survey was conducted according to the European scale EMS98 - European Macroseismic Scale [Grünthal, 1998] and only concerns external damage to buildings.

The most damaged area (and almost exclusively) was the hilly part of Casamicciola Terme, whose settlement is distributed on the northern side of the island.

The total damage observed justifies the assignment of grade VIII to the red area of Casamicciola Terme. Widespread damage also in the hamlet of Fango di Lacco Ameno, which has been assigned an intensity equal to the VII EMS. In Lacco Ameno, the capital, very slight damage can be observed sporadically (EMS Intensity V).

The Quest teams are still working to complete the picture of resentment throughout the island. We publish a preliminary report prepared by Ingv and Enea.
