Assistance in the first 48 hours

The Head of Civil Protection Department, accompanied by a team of experts, immediately inspects the affected areas for a first analysis of the situation with the President of Emilia-Romagna and the head of the Regional Civil Protection.
The operating structures of the National Service send teams of men and resources whilst the Department provides technical teams to support surveys and macroseismic damage assessments.

An hour after the event sanitary modules are made available, to support the local needs in Tuscany, Veneto, Marche and Lombardy. The effective coordination of local health care resources, however, does not make it necessary to send emergency vehicles from other regions.

Based on reported needs by the territory, and in support of local response, the Department activates the regional mobiles of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche, Tuscany, Umbria, Veneto and the National Alpine Association and the National Association of Public Assistance.
The voluntary workers activities are directed towards assisting the population by fitting out reception areas, workstations, and social health care and eating areas.

Rescue, debri removal and building survey is carried out principally by the National Fire Fighters Department. The Police activate public order and safety measures to prevent incidents of looting.
Safety surveys
Immediately after the earthquake safety surveys are undertaken by teams of technicians in the Emilia-Romagna region and technical teams from other regions, coordinated by the Department of Civil Protection.
The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, which carefully surveys the damage on structures, notes that, besides the obvious collapse, a large number of historic buildings show serious architectural damage.
Dam inspections, carried out by the Italian Dams Registry state that checks carried out within 100 km from the epicenter show no damage to their structures was noted.
