After the earthquake of April 6th, the main objective was to guarantee housing solution to the affected population. This objective was to provide different housing solutions for seismic zone’s residents having their houses destroyed, condemned or in the red zone: buildings of the  C.A.S.E. Project  – Anti-seismic Complex Sustainable and Environmental friendly, the MAP– Temporary Housing Modules,

subsided rents, hotels and State structures and the CAS – Contribution of Autonomous Accommodation. Particularly, for the citizens of L’Aquila hit by the earthquake, the Civil Protection Department started a recognition of the housing needs.

Within the C.A.S.E. Project, have been realized 185 anti-seismic building in 19 zones of L’Aquila, for a total of about 4,500 apartments that can host more than 15,000 people. The first deliveries of the Case project began on September 29, 2009, and last buildings were delivered in February 2010. On 31 March 2010 all the project buildings management passed to the Municipality of L'Aquila.

For the citizens living in other municipalities affected by the earthquake and for some of the districts of L'Aquila with houses destroyed, condemned or in the red zone has been provided the MAP as temporary housing solution. . For the municipalities surrounding L'Aquila, a total of about 1900 wooden houses have been provided for, while about 1400 modules have been installed in the municipality of L'Aquila, of which more than 1100 realized by the Civil Protection Department. In addition, there are over 360 MAP donated by companies, institutions, associations and foundations, both as homes for private use and as facilities for services to citizens, such as clinics or schools.

The Government launched further significant actions for the recovery of the areas affected by the earthquake, including contributions for the repair and reconstruction of homes and compensation for production activities and cultural associations.
